pistol magazine compatibility

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to get a pistol for when TSHTF and I'm wondering about magazine availability in a SHTF scenario. Does anybody know if the magazines for Bersas, Glocks and Berettas are compatible with each other? Do you think that magazine availability will be a problem when TSHTF?

I'm thinking of getting either a Bersa .40; Glock .40; or 1911 .45ACP. Does anybody know about jamming or reliability issues?

Thanks,

Matt

Bersa, Glock, and Beretta mags are NOT compatible.

Law Enforcement uses Glock pistols extensively, so mags should be widely available for some time, IMO.

Mags for 1911 type pistols need to be checked or "tuned" for functional reliability.

Beretta 92 mags should also be readily available...

Glock in any caliber would be a good bet for reliability and capacity, they have a fair number of police trade-ins in .40 cal these days. They hold 15 rounds and you can buy the ammo at Wal Mart. They also have them in .45 and 9mm.

Just buy some spare magazines.

CDNNinvestments is a good bet for magazines.

Some compact glock models can take the magazines from their big brothers. For example in .45acp, the compact Glock 30 that has 10 round mags will also accept the 13 round mags from the Glock 21.

A company name A&G makes magazine spacer sleeves that help with the extened magazine fit so the grip width is the same and can be found at the bottom of this page:

Glock magazine compatibility is listed here:

Thanks Grasp. That's a good idea.

Does anybody have experience with the .357 sig cartridge? I like the 357Mag, but I don't want a revolver or a desert eagle. I've read that a glock .40 can be converted to fire the 357 sig by changing the barrel -- is this easier said than done?

Some discussion here: http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthre...hlight=convert

If you search over there with the word convert, I am sure you can find out lots of info.

For Hi Cap stick with Glock Factory. I have heard many bad things about "other" brands.

"I think a G-33 is the way to go; but then I have a G-32. Anyway, the G-33/G-27 are the same pistol and you can convert to .40S&W/.357sig with just a drop-in barrel."

"The G33 and The G27 have the same frame internals and slide. The dimensions are exactly the same 6.29 in, long 1.18 inches wide 4.14in height
line of sight 5.67 in. barrel legnth 3.46 in.. The only differences are the barrel and the mags. I carry a converted G27 with a stock OEM .357sig barrel use the .40 mags. buy a G27 or G33 and can convert either gun."
